Hmm... No plane yet. Weather getting worse...

"The plane has been rerouted to Kansai International Airport due to the weather, we will announce the new arrival time..."

This sucks. Maruchan just double booked me on the 5:25 ANA flight, but I bet that's at risk. I better get hustling to figure out what to do instead of sitting here blogging...

So I am in the ANA lounge now. Their is a weird booth for mobile phones. It's like a phone booth, but no phone...

I got my ANA ticket. They will charge me 1000 yen to cancel, but that's cheap considering I'm now hedged. There is still a chance that neither plane will take off, but the ANA plane that I confirmed is sitting in the hanger at Narita is surely a better bet than an Air China plane sitting in Osaka. It is amazing that all of those people on Air China just are sitting at the gate waiting for the announcement. Kind of like people waiting for the Japanese economy to get better...

Now tracking down my bag. Confirmed that my CA bag number got entered into the ANA computer and that CA was told route the bag to ANA and write "ANA" on the tag. I hope it works or I'll be on TV tomorrow in my T-shirt.

Hmm... Overheard staff saying that all takeoff and landings in and out of NRT are on hold. Air Canada just got delayed until 8pm... But Maru tells me that the Typhoon hits Tochigi at 0:00am so it should be OK... I wonder what it is.

What I would HATE is for everything to shut down at once and standing in a LONG line with a Viao and a dead battery. ;-p

UA flight to SF delayed too... hmm... just going down the list now...

Hmm... They just came and told me the only aisle seats are bulkhead and last row... Well, if that turns out to be the only final inconvenience, I will be happy...

Or maybe it is the, "Otherwise, how did you enjoy the theater Mrs. Lincoln..." (a Jun favorite)

Got confirmation that my bag is on the plane. Yes...My Suit. 10 minutes to boarding. I wonder what Idei-san is doing right now? I wonder if his corporate jet will be able to get a takeoff slot. I wonder whether one Sony CEO is gets preference over a few hundred ANA passengers. Probably not in Japan. The panel won't work without him tomorrow though.. Hmm... Anyway, I better start over to the gate. If you don't hear from me again, I probably made it on the plane.

I love the ANA "phone booths" with no phone. The world is filled with objects and customs that were created aeons ago for one purpose that still exist, but people can't remember how they started -- historical echoes. Like the handshake (I think originally a gestures to show your right hand wasn't holding a sword -- therefore friendship), or a toast (raising your right hand up and exposing your midsection, indicating trust). A millenia from now there will be small enclosed booths we go into when we wish to communicate with someone, even though there is no reason to use a "booth" and people will wonder where the custom came from. . .

in any case, i assume that it's just for privacy as one uses a cell phone.

in the future, of course, we will wear our own, gossamer-thin, spider gene-enhanced, molecular layer 'cloaks of privacy', like our own little bulletproof burqas, keeping out the prying ears, eyes and noses of others, as we make our way through the perilous world of the future. or so that zany william gibson would have us believe...

i myself look forward to a future with teleportation booths, guaranteed 'no-fly zones', if you know what i mean.
