billmon at Whiskey Bar is blogging from Davos. I wonder who he/she is. I looked up "Bill Mon" and last name "Billmon" in the directory and I couldn't find a listing. I couldn't find his/her real name on the blog either. Is Whiskey Bar a pseudonymous blog by a professional journalist?

Thanks for the link Abe. I think billmon is presenting an interesting view. I'm focused primarily on hanging out with people I like and going to sessions that I'm interested in so billmon's view is probably a good way to see another side of Davos.

Billmon is a Daily Kos alumni. He worked once as a journalist covering economics and now works as an economist-type who does journalistic things to scratch his itch. He's in Davos for his day job.

Yeah, he blogs under a pseudonym due to the constraints of his day job. Apparently he is in Davos working, writing up daily summaries of the panels to be distributed to the participants.

He's been getting increasingly pessimistic of late, but is still one of the sharpest commentators on the US political and economic situation. There is no question he knows his stuff. Take a look at his early posts (last spring) to see him take on the American prospects with an prime sense of humor. A sense of humor I must warn has been absent from his recent writing.

and Joi thanks for the link ;)

I bet that 'Bill Mon' is a bluegrass music nut and and American.

'Big Mon' was an oft used moniker for Bill Monroe, the godfather of bluegrass music. Anyone consipicuously carrying around a mandolin? lol

There's my useless factoid for a rainy Saturday afternoon.

This person went to some length to protect his/her privacy: domain is registered through http://domainsbyproxy.com/ to ensure that no personal data is displayed...

Surely everyone knows that domainsbyproxy.com is a cover of the CIA?

His real name isn't that hard to track down, unlike Atrios ;-) Especially when he replies to e-mail from his home account.

Whoa - You all going to "out" this guy?

He must surely be aware of this discussion, so if he wants to, I'm sure he'll put his own name up.
It could be, though, that he's blogged stuff that would get him in trouble if it was attached to his name. (or wants to be able to in the future...)
Maybe he's just more comfortable having his privacy.
I think we should respect that.

I hung out a bit with Simon this trip. He rocks. ;-)

They seek him here, the seek him there, that damned elusive Pimpernel

He was outed onc eby PoorAndStupid., and more or less admitted to the name, William Montague.

It's not much of a secret when he uses a contraction/nickname.

Anonymous coward, you certainly deserve your name.
