Six Apart announced TypeKey. It's a user login system that can among other things, help prevent comment spam. It will work with Movable Type 3.0 and TypePad.

My prediction from long ago that someone would fly in under the radar and trump Passport, etc.. may come true yet!

Saw this one coming:

The really cool thing about this doesn't just lie in comment spam, however. Imagine a huge audience of even 20% of blog readers being aggregated into one system. The possibilities are endless. I can only think of a few right now, such as automatic blogroll sharing and relational metadata, but I know my brain isn't the only one working (TypeKey proves that much).

Not just MT3 and TypePad, they've promised to make it an open architecture for developers to TypeKey-enable their own web apps.

Keen!

Since we're taking credit (or sharing it). I made posted a suggestion to the SixApart people in early January that they use a cross-site, public-key-based authentication system to mitigate the damage caused by the FloodMT weenies.

TypeKey must be the stupidest idea. Repeat after me centralized servers are very bad.

Very brave, I must say.
