Kevin Marks has created a Quicktime movie of the Steve Jobs keynote at WWDC 2005 with chapters which makes it easier to view. This is the first time I've seen chapters. Pretty neat.

UPDATE: Here's how you do it.

Yes, pretty neat. It would be totally frikkin awesome if we could have anchors work too, like:
http://homepage.mac.com/kevinmarks/wwdc2005.mov#transitions

Then we could have videoblog permalinks... cough hint cough hint. :)
(Hey, if Jobs can be on stage hawking Podcasting...)

I forget the particulars, but isn't it possible for an http request (FTP request?) to specify an offset - in other words, tell the server "I already have the first xxxx bytes, start at offset xxxx+1"

With some video files, this would be fine. Not sure if a MOV would play well that way though.

Joi managed to miss the link to my blogpost where I show how to do this too.
Boris: you can edit out just the chunk you want using QT Player, and make a reference movie.
Jim: it's possible for HTTP too. I implemented support for this in QuickTime years ago, but Apple never shipped it, so although it can be done, in practice it works better if you save self-contained.

Kevin, thanks for doing this and all the info. However, even though I know how to edit a QT movie, that wasn't my point. It's the permalink aspect that would be cool. :)

So, are you saying you knew about the Double Life project all along!? ;)
