TCHO Beta

My TCHO Beta arrived. YUM! TCHO is one of my rare non-Internet investments. Several years ago, my old friend Timothy Childs told me he was starting a chocolate factory. I thought he was totally crazy. I sort of tried to ignore it for awhile, but he didn't give up and appeared to continue getting more and more excited. Finally he said he had sort of gotten things set up and invited me over to his super-secret lab and showed me around. I was really impressed. He told me his secret plans and said that my old friends Jane and Louis (the founders of Wired) were investors. He gave me some chocolate nibs to take home and put on my salad.

While I munched on the nibs I thought a lot about how fun it would be to be involved in a chocolate factory and when Louis took the CEO role and invited me in to their friends and family investor round I jumped at the chance. Anyway, the hardest part about being an investor in TCHO was keeping it secret.

Now you can order the beta C Ghana 0.2x from the site and tell us what you think.

No shipping outside USA... :-(

Importing chocolate to Japan can be problematic.
Regulations are very protective of the domestic producers and corruption does occur.

I talked to one Belgian importer whose shipment of chocolates was held up in customs at the behest of a Japanese chocolate company and actually watched as the pallet of chocolate was pushed out to sit in the sun (away from all of the other cargo) while the processing of the paperwork was delayed.

There's also a strange law that prohibits the use of almond paste. I'm a bit unclear as to how it's used in chocolate production, but I believe it helps preserve a fresh appearance. Foreign chocolates are tested for it, but Japanese companies are allowed to rinse their mixers and bowls in a solution of the stuff, supposedly to "clean" the equipment, but thereby adding enough of the praline to act as a preservative, while avoiding having it considered an ingredient.

I really love the design, the raw packaging. But I am not sure I would like the chocolate, but I cannot try, no shipping to europe...:-(

thanks for the tip. I loved Cabaret Chocolates from Timothy Childs.

I'm glad to see that. I've been on dev tasting for years. I can imagine how machines cranking : )

I got 20 packs of beta TCHO. I really enjoyed blocks and packages. That is great gifts for my Japanese friends.

Yoshi

I had the great pleasure of the company of several TCHO employees this afternoon (Thurs, March 20, 2008) while I was entertaining on the street next to Pier 17.
As Captain Kazoo I travel around the world in the KAZOOMOBILE
giving away KAZOOZ and getting folks to form a KAZOO BAND and perform for my YOU TUBE series "Captain Kazooz Kazoo Revue".
As a reward for my efforts I was presented with a TCHO Beta pak (C CHANA G. GAK) of THE MOST DESCRUMPTIOUS CHOCOLATE I have ever tasted.
Unfortunately the video of the CHOCOLATEY KAZOO BAND was somewhat overexposed due to extremely bright afternoon sun shining right into the camera lens.
To view the CHOCOLATEY KAZOO BAND video please log on to:

The TCHO people that I met were as bright as the sunshine and as pleasant as an afternoon in San Francisco could be, without a doubt as fine a batch of KAZOOISTS as I have ever encountered in my travels and the added surprise of your most enjoyable chocolate made my day.
I did NOT get any of the names of the CHOCOLATEY KAZOO BAND players but if you recognize anyone in the video, be sure to give them a raise and thank them for me. I'll stop by Pier 17 next time I'm in S.F. and if you need any KAZOOZ for whatever reason please don't hesitate to ask.
Thanx again and Keep On Hummin',
