design feedback
general
-
I really preferred the old design! I miss many things happening at once (a game-like interface)-- This interface is far too corporate and uninviting! Sorry, but I really think this design is a giant step backward, and follows the rules of the wrong school of interface design. -- Marc Prensky

interesting. While I think I understand where you may be coming from (having visited your website, sir), when it comes to presentation of content and ways of accessing content, clean & clear win out, IMHO, over "fun & playful". That said, your own website (
http://www.marcprensky.com/ is very nice! And clear and clean! Not uninviting at all... As is your blog, might I add. I look forward to reading your very interesting sounding ideas! -B.
sidebar
-
Titles need to be reworked and un-necessary stuff dumped
-
Currently the page is very funky in IE 5.5 on Windoze. The sidebar is too wide and encroaches on the post text.
-
This *should* be fixed, though it is perplexing. I may need to enlist outside help... -B.

I don't like having to click on a title rather than just on the bar. Clicking again should close, rather than having to click on the box with x - too much mousing!
-
Collapsed categories are clean, but you have to individually open up each one to see if there's anything new. Inconvenient! --BrianHunziker
-
You have to open them all every visit as there's no facility for remembering which have been left open/closed. --BrianHunziker
-
Minor point, but collapsing requires javascript, which is fine. BUT: for people who have js turned off, all categories should default to being open or else there's no access. easily done by setting visibile in css, then a js function to hide all onload. --BrianHunziker
-
very good feedback! I will take this into account and try to jiggle with the javascript some. Thank you! -B.

I wonder if the Creative Commons license should come under the title of Copyright. Isn't it mutually exclusive? --StuartWoodward
fonts
-
The side bar fonts are nice, but the main text font is a bit small. The italic fonts are nearly illegible in IE or Mozilla on Windows because of their size. UPDATE: it looks quite good now!
-
Boris, Joi: Yes too small is not really the problem... It's because the font is set definitively imposing to the users your choice. Boris put the font-size in "em", so people will have by default the font-size set in their browsers and not the one you impose to them. You can play after for the menu with 0.9em for example. --KarlDubost

I've done a quick *upping* of some of the font sizes, still using PX. I need to further investigate px vs. pt vs. em. Em has always been a pain for me; an opportunity to learn I suppose.
