Ben and Mena are now family...

Six Apart (Ben and Mena's company, the creator of Movable Type) just announced their hosted service, TypePad. They also announced that Anil has joined the team. Also somewhere in the announcement is a bit about my company, Neoteny investing in Six Apart. I'm very excited both as a Movable Type user/fan and as an investor.
This is probably one of the most exciting investments we've made and I particularly like the fact that I started as a user, sponsor, friend and finally an investor. I really like Ben and Mena and wish we could find more deals that were as cool as this.
Congratulations and lots of thanks to the whole team who worked to make this deal happen!
Cheers!

Exciting stuff, Joi. Sounds like a great deal for everyone involved. Kinda scary to think of you and Anil on the same team, though. I sense a round of malediction may follow the round of financing. :-)

Congratulations! Nothing better than an investor that's a true believer.

We are excited about the announcement and as dedicated MT Fans we are excited about what comes next. From the press release they appear to be working towards overcoming some of the fundamental challenges in launching a weblog.

I am teaching an information literacy course for first year students in the summer semester. Starting a blog is one strategic goal I want them to clear. I hope I can point my students to the new service some time in May.

Many congrats Joi! Anil said something about upcoming trips to Japan, and now it makes sense :) Best of luck!

Is that the same Anil that I just saw/heard at the "Blogs and Journalism" Birds of a Feather session at the O'Reilly Conference tonight?
That was a wonderful discussion by the way. Room was overflowing with intelligence, dialog and vision. Howard Reingold sat down next to me. To bad he left early since I would have loved to chat with him.

Al, that was me, feel free to track me down the rest of the week, I'm still at Etech and we can talk.
And Gen, I was saying I was hoping this would give me a pretense for getting to Tokyo now. ;)

This retrieves the old Victor Kiam advertisements from the United States in the 1970s and 1980s about the Remington Shaver Company: "I liked it so much, I bought the company!"
Congratulations Joi, Ben and Mena, and the entire team. I'm looking forward to converting the McLuhan Program Blog to TypePad!

I'm really glad to see that a project like this is evolving. Thanks so much for investing in TypePad; it will improve the blogging community because it will raise the bar higher than Blogger. Users will come to expect better features with their web-based services and XHTML compliance will spread like wildfire.
