I just got this via email and don't know the copyright or the origin of this. If someone knows whether I should give credit to someone, please let me know. But it's too funny not to blog.

Not sure, but it might have been the work of Mohammad Al-Tahan

Math problems? Call 1-800-[(10x)(13i)2]-[sin(xy)/2.362x].

hehe - would it be as funny if the supposed student had been male I wonder?

Still, ;)

It should be the limit as x approaches 8 from above, i.e.

lim_{x->8+}{1/(x-8)}

because the limit as you approach 8 from below written lim_{x->8-} would be negative infinity, e.g. 1/(7.99999-8) = -100000

This reminds me of my time in school. Always nodding my head that I understood something, when I actually didn't have a clue. It's kind of sad.

Jonathan's right, and it would be funnier if this didn't have such an obvious error.

A joke that is funny should not be over analysed. Just smile or laugh.

once in a while, my hs calc teacher would tell us math jokes and a friend would always laugh twice. once after the joke, then again when he got it.

well, i like the joke because it relates to me now. In my tenth grade class we are learning about this and graphing on imaginery lines.

I am going to tell all of my freinds this because it is a great joke.

Ahh... Next question please.

i like math relly much!

Me do math gut. ♂+♀=♥

i saw this story on the homepage of a professor of economics at an american university. I don't recall neither name nor university, only that it was a lady and (maybe) an italian or spanish-sounding name. she is the one to be credited. I laughed for hours. thanks to your post I rediscovered it.
