So what do you mean by "live" squid... was it merely knocked dizzy?
It was still moving. Its tentacles would stick to your fingers and the pigment on its skin was pulsating. Its eyes moved too. On the other hand, it was chopped into pieces. So I'm not sure whether it was "alive" or just really fresh. It may seem a bit gross, but squid in particular tastes much better and very different when it is VERY fresh. The taste diminishes without minutes.
Heh, I like the "pulsating" bit, makes me imagine an exciting dinner.
But interesting...
EATING ANIMALS THAT WERE ALIVE ONLY SECONDS BEFORE IS FUCKING DISGUSTING AND I THINK YOU SHOULD GO RAPE A DONKEY
I'm not sure if I could eat a live octopus. I love fresh sea urchin (uni?) though. It's so buttery and melty. I think octopod are cute and even beautiful though, and they've been proven to be quite intelligent. (Housecat level or better.) Maybe I could eat it once, or more if I liked it, but I'm pretty sure I would see the skin pigment changes and be bummed out. But then I eat cow, so it probably shouldn't bother me so much, even if I think octopods are cuter than cows. Mmm. Pass the salmon and tuna slabs, please.
Raping a donkey is disgusting. There's nothing wrong with eating food.
Eating something that died 5000 years ago, 5 days ago, 5 minutes ago. Why is it you are the one who decides whats wrong? You're wrong.
i tried squid sashimi in Hakodate, north Japan. It was amazing. As its wriggling stopped, the waitress poured soy sauce over it and the tenticles continued rolling over one another. You are supposed to suck the eyes in your cheeks. I think its suffering was very short, the chief dismantled its central nervous system quickly. I didn't eat the GI tract however; it looked pooey.
Ummm it IS disgusting when it is ALIVE. And nobody said he decides what people eat he just was making a statement that I happen to agree with that it is very inhumane to be eaten alive. While I believe the saying "to each his own" your response to that Jimmy guy almost made me laugh that you would find it so offending that he didn't agree with eating a live octopus.
What's the big fuss 'bout it. If it taste good, eat it. There're people who are willing to take the deadly risk to consume Fugu.
Nice!
I never eat nothing with more than two digits IQ.
Yumm... Where did you have it? There's nothing wrong with raping a donkey, either. They are fun ...
Too all those who think eating it is fine whether it tastes good or whatever else, their private parts should be placed firmly in an electric meat grinder and it being turned on.
It's clearly sick, and there's nothing to jusity it whatsoever, and all those who think differenty have twisted, demented minds.
nice
Heh, I like the "pulsating" bit, makes me imagine an exciting dinner.
But interesting...
cant eat it at all
cant eat this :(
cant eat this :(
i'm just wondering: do its parts still move on the way down??
Heh, I like the "pulsating" bit, makes me imagine an exciting dinner.
But interesting...
Iill eat anything that doesn't (or can't) crawl off the plate, and I prefer my stake rare, but I want my food to be deceased when it is placed in front of me!
Anyone have any video of a live squid actually being eaten? I had seen it on National Geographic Taboo - cultural differences and things of that nature are intruiging to me. Please email if you do have any video links, I've searched but to no avail.

here you can download a video....disgusting!
I think the people dissing the idea are totally narrow minded and should think about what they say before telling people to go rape donkeys. I really like sushi, I eat octopus, eel and sea urchin and its always "fresh" where I get it. I know in Japan and Korea live octopi and squid are a delicacy and enjoyed many people in those cultures. I havnt tried anything live yet, but I plan to.
You do all I hope realize that oysters and urchins are usualy eaten alive in the western-world as well, so this does not to me at least seem streange or disgusting.
Lupis is correct in saying that seafood is also eaten raw in western countries, so what's disgusting? It's all a matter of which culture you belong to.
I really love squid/octo but I don't think I could eat them alive. Nothing is wrong with enjoying something that you like.
For those who believe there is no justification to eating live Squid, I have just one perspective to offer you:
Do you think bigger animals in the wild wait for them to die first?
Honestly, Cheetahs don't wait for their prey to croak over dead, and birds don't have a choice of buying worms with a bajillion preservatives in them. In fact, the only animal I can think of that waits to eat other animals when they die might be... Roaches and Vultures.
Do you wanna be like a roach?
Noooo!
So lay off.
In addition, while a lot of western culture states that this might be disgusting, I'd say an equal or greater percentage of people hailing from western culture are Christian. And does it not say in the bible that God put animals on this planet to serve humans?
It's not like those poacher movies you see in MySpace bulletins, ruthelessly killing seals for their coats to make a buck. It's food. Plain and simple, you are eating it.
Imagine you go out to red lobster and eat a red lobster before it's dead. A quick snapping of it's neck, and boom! It's dead! Traditionally though, the lobster would be cooked instead, being drowned in increasingly scorching water as it is boiled alive. You think that hurts more than a quick death? Bring a dog into the resturaunt next time, and see how it reacts. (Hint: lobsters scream as they are boiled alive, just like anything else. They just do it at a frequency higher than human ears may detect.)
So my final point, after all this rebuttal is- if it tastes better, why not?
