I met Kris and Maciej of netomat at Supernova and just got around to downloading and playing with the beta. It looks interesting. It's like an email/wiki/link sharing tool. It's written in Java and runs on Mac and Windows. It's pretty easy to use and is more "rich" than a wiki because it has things like drawing tools that let you annotate pages in a way similar to a white board. You create pages with your netomat client. You can publish it with editing enabled so anyone can modify it. It keeps a history of changes. You can email pages to people. You can include lots of things in pages including audio, images, links, etc.
If anyone else is running the beta, send me netomat mail so that we can mess around. I am jito on netomat. My first netomat page is here.
(Disclaimer: I'm a netomat employee, although I'm also an active blogger)
FYI: by copying the tags, you can actually embed it within a blog post. It works in pretty much everything except LiveJournal. Here are a bunch I did during the internal beta:

This looks great and wonderful. But it seems to be an update of the old java white boards and java audio tools we've been using for years. Gonna install and see if it is pushing any limits, or merely relocalizing something in a new suit of code. Though I'm rooting on the behalf of Netomat, of course.
Pretty interesting, so far. It has all the negative baggage of Java, but having developed java tools for a number of years, it is easy to tell that it is the Java, not Netomat's problem. Netomat doesn't do anything I wasn't expecting. Seen it all. The difference it that they do it well. Though I'd prefer to have an option to store it all on my own server, and this may be a feature that I've missed or for some future version, it all worked as described. And this is the sort of tool I can use with students, which is what I'm interested in using it with. Thanks for the tip, Joi.
hey joi, im also messing around with netomat... my first netomat is in my blog here. its a cool way make grafitti!
