Now stop complaining about how stupid "blog" sounds.David Pescovitz @ Boing BoingBlog definedMeriam-Webster declared yesterday that based on lookups in their online dictionary, the "#1 Word of the Year for 2004" is (drumroll and eyeroll)... "blog."
Blog noun [short for Weblog] (1999) : a Web site that contains an online personal journal with reflections, comments, and often hyperlinks provided by the writer.
Also-rans include "incumbent,""insurgent,""hurricane," and "peloton," defined as the "main body of riders in a bicycle race."

When I saw the list of words and didn't know what a Peloton was I thought first to look in wikipedia. I ended up on the German site and found that peloton also means small military unit in the 18th century - eg in prussia it was "an eighth of an battalion" (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peloton). It's cool to have that local flavour on the country sites.

Blogging about blogging...that would be metablogging, wouldn't it?
And yet again, here we are with the blog = diary misunderstanding. I feel like I'm hitting my head against a brick wall with this, and now Meriam-Webster have gone and got this fundamental inaccuracy all set into people's heads.
Maybe it would be easier to redefine diary.
