Barlow has gone public with his fight for his 4th Amendment rights. Please read the story on his blog. I commend Barlow for discussing this in public and for fighting for his rights since you lose rights that you don't fight for, even if it's embarrassing or painful. It is generally true of all forms of fighting for privacy related rights. It's often very difficult since you get cast as someone who might "need privacy more than others." You also lose your privacy when you fight for it in public. You may not agree with Barlow's judgement if he was indeed carrying drugs, but Americans should be worried if they lose their 4th amendment rights.U.S. Constitution: Fourth AmendmentFourth Amendment - Search and SeizureThe right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.
UPDATE/CLARIFICATION : He doesn't say that the allegations are necessarily true.
I have been stopped by the police dozens of times in my life for no reason. Illegal searches are a staple in the war on drugs! In fact, without illegal searches, most petty arrests would not even happen.
Other comments:
1. I have had things stolen from my luggage after check in.
2. Traveling with drugs is stupid.
3. Rent a cops are not to be trusted and are easy to fool.
perspective on ubiquitous surveillance
I dont know where else to turn...if you can help i would appreciate it....i am a friend of Kelly Gould...and he has been detained for the last 5 years and NOT CHARGED!!!
He lost his case here in louisiana, his home was illegally searched...they found rifles in a closet...and arrested him..(convicted felon in possesion of a firearm)..first of all the guns belonged to an ex girlfriend who neglected to remove them when she moved...and second...the police had no right to search his home...being that we reside in louisiana we need help from another state, unfortunately, we are still in the back woods using the "good ole boy" system...who know who etc...if you can help or put me in contact with someone who can, i would greatly appreciate it...
thank you!
